They say rain on a wedding day is good luck. I'm not really sure who "they" is or why their saying stuck, but as a wedding photographer who has witnessed the derailing of plans rain can cause, I assure you that most brides don't feel lucky when it showers on their big day. Lauren took it like a champ, though. What was once planned as an outdoor, bubble-filled ceremony quickly evolved into an intimate, indoor affair when Hurricane Matthew gusted through Richmond on October 8, 2016. Luckily, the Hilton Hotel has some pretty awesome indoor accommodations, which inevitably saved the day.
Bryan and Lauren reached out to me as referrals from a dear friend and we instantly clicked. There was something sweet and unique about this couple that made me feel at ease every time we talked, and their engagement session was a total breeze (literally, windy as heck haha). It was no surprise to me when I heard just how large their wedding party would be, considering how kind, genuine and personable they were from the start. While the wedding party was huge, I will say they were incredibly high-spirited and excited to celebrate Lauren and Bryan's special love, rain or shine.
The Bride and Groom's big day was filled with personal touches, such as custom champaign glasses, an adorable puzzle guest book, and Bryan's incredibly-special cufflinks made with a photo of his late mother. Details like vibrant flowers, personalized koozies, and lucky scratcher tickets speckled each table and added a fun, lighthearted vibe to this special night.
Photographing Mr. and Mrs. Taylor's day was absolutely amazing, but nothing could compare to my excitement when we officially planned an extra bride and groom portrait session for a later date at Lauren and Bryan's original wedding venue, the Virginia State Capitol. Golden hour was everything I had hoped and prayed it would be. In fact, it was so perfect, I am convinced it was in the stars for us all along. There's something about the city that brings love to life in photos. I'm so thankful I was able to give them the glowy, romantic images they had always dreamed of, while still capturing the joy and excitement of their wedding day. Please join me in taking a look at some of my favorite images from Lauren and Bryan's big day!
*** As always, I am so honored to have been a part of this breath-taking day, and I truly can't thank Lauren, Bryan, or their sweet friends and family enough for their amazing treatment. I also have to give another huuuuuge shout-out to my super talented second-shooter (who captured a bunch of these awesome shots), Ashley Dorton of Ashley Dorton Photography; I could not have done this without you. ***
